Sure, I get where you are coming from. We need to protect our children too, when we deem is necessary. But rather than ridicule, why not seek to gain to understand? And then support?
Quite often, the problem with society, is that we bunch people into groups. Age ranges. Grades. Talents. Disabilities. Whatever it is. Then all of a sudden we treat everyone like the lowest common dominator of the whole group.
(I believe) we should seek to understand and respect people on and individual basis and then start to seek ways of supporting these people (if it is possible/relevant), not ridiculing them.
If it was my daughter doing that, I think I would look to understand what she is trying to do. Support her. Do my own research. Understand the risks. And most importantly communicate things back to her as she deserves to be communicated to.
